What is a Nurse Practitioner?
A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse with advanced university education who provides personalized, quality health care to patients. Ontario nurse practitioners provide a full range of health care services to individuals, families and communities in a variety of settings including hospitals and community based clinics in cities and smaller towns in Ontario. Nurse practitioners can diagnose and treat common injuries and illnesses, write some prescriptions and order bloodwork and diagnostic tests.

The nurse practitioner’s at the Blue Sky Family Health Team are involved in a variety of programs and provide general primary health care services for patients of all ages. For some people, the nurse practitioner is their most frequent point of contact with the health care system.
